Cliff Lee Pitches Third Straight Shutout
Cliff Lee pitched his third straight shutout on Tuesday night as the Phillies topped the Red Sox 5-0 at Citizens Bank Park.
"I'm making pitches, staying out of the zone, using my breaking ball and getting lucky," Lee said.
Lee allowed just two hits against Boston.
He didn't allow a hit until Marco Scutaro led off the sixth with a line-drive single to left-center. He ran his career-best scoreless streak to 32 innings with his ninth career shutout and fourth this year.
"It's been a good run, no doubt about it," Lee said. "I've had a few in my career, but I don't look back and compare them. I want to throw a shutout every time out there. I never want to give up a run."

Sabathia Is First Pitcher To 10 Wins
CC Sabathia became the first pitcher in the major leagues to win 10 games as the Yankees defeated the Rockies 8-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Sabathia allowed just one run in eight innings against Colorado.
"I wish I could say it meant something, but it don't," he said. "We're here to win championships. That's what we're trying to do."
Sabathia has lost once since May 14, pitching into the seventh inning every time.
"He's the same guy every day," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "He just goes out and pitches and wins ballgames. That's what he does."
Shields Tosses Third-Straight Complete Game
The Rays defeated the Astros 5-1 on Friday night as right-hander James Shields tossed his third-straight complete game, a team record.
Shields, who is 8-4 this season, allowed three hits and struck out nine with one walk.
He leads the majors with six complete games this season.
"I definitely didn't think it was going to be this many," Shields said of his complete games. "I thought I was going to get three or four or something like that. It's unbelievable. This is not how I expected to start, but it's exactly how I want to start. So I'm going to try to keep it going."
Posada Ends Lengthy Homer Drought
Yankees designated hitter Jorge Posada homered against the Reds on Wednesday afternoon, ending the second-longest home run drought of his lengthy career.
Posada hit a two-run shot to help give New York a 4-2 win over Cincinnati, their fourth straight victory.
He had gone 126 at-bats since his last home run.
Posada has his average up to .227 after a very slow start to the season and a rough last 10 days.
Verlander Tosses Another Complete Game
Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander tossed his second-straight complete game, beating the Rockies 9-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Verlander threw a four-hitter to earn his seventh straight victory, but said he wasn't nearly as sharp as he has been lately.
"This start wasn't that great," he said. "Early in the game especially, my fastball control wasn't anywhere near where it should be. But I was able to keep guys off balance."
Verlander has four complete games, matching his total from all of last year.
Damon Hits 500th Double In Victory
Johnny Damon joined an elite group on Saturday as he hit the 500th double of his career in Tampa Bay's 7-4 victory over Florida.
Damon, with an opposite-field bloop double to left in the first, became just the 11th player all-time to have 500 doubles, 100 triples, 200 homers, and 2,500 hits.
"It's awesome," Damon said. "It means so much."
All of the other players accomplishing the feat -- George Brett, Lou Gehrig, Goose Goslin, Rogers Hornsby, Willie Mays, Paul Molitor, Stan Musial, Babe Ruth, Al Simmons and Robin Yount -- are in baseball's Hall of Fame.
"When you talk about deserving the Hall of Fame, absolutely, that kind of performance deserves not only top consideration, but acception," manager Joe Maddon said.
Mauer Has RBI In Winning Return
Twins catcher Joe Mauer had an RBI on Friday night in his return to the lineup for the first time since mid-April.
Minnesota defeated San Diego 6-5.
Mauer brought in a run with a single in the first inning, starting a five-run rally.
He missed 58 games with bilateral leg weakness and came to the plate in the first after a standing ovation from the sold out crowd.
"It had been a long time since I had stepped in the box so I tried to keep it simple," Mauer said. "It was a pretty tough lefty out there tonight so I tried to use the whole field and was able to get a pitch and get one through the infield. So it was good."
Beckett Allows One Hit In CG Shutout
A day after James Shields stifled the Red Sox, Josh Beckett returned the favor against the Rays on Wednesday night.
Beckett allowed one base-runner in a one-hit, complete game shutout as Boston defeated Tampa Bay 3-0.
"Gotta like that one, huh?" Red Sox pitching coach Curt Young said.
"Just classic. Lot of hard in, a lot of good changeups, nothing in the middle."
Tampa Bay's only hit came on what Red Sox manager Terry Francona called "that little 3-iron out of the rough," a ball rolled down the third-base line by the No. 9 hitter in the Rays' order, Reid Brignac.
"It was a hit," Beckett said. "Doesn't matter who is playing over there. It doesn't matter how you draw it up. It's a hit. It wasn't a no-hitter. It wasn't a perfect game. It was a one-hitter."
